Cleaning is the deeper version of a pump-out, used when a tank has been neglected or is being brought back into service.

A routine pump-out removes what the suction hose can reach. Cleaning goes further: the operator breaks up and removes compacted sludge, washes down internal surfaces, clears the outlet and effluent filter, and inspects the tank structure while it is empty and visible.

This is the right service for a tank that has not been touched in a decade, a property being brought back into use after sitting empty, or a system where solids have started carrying over into the outlet. It is also common before a pre-purchase inspection, because a clean empty tank is the only way to see cracks, root intrusion and failed baffles properly.

Cleaning takes longer than a standard pump-out and usually costs more, so a provider will normally confirm scope with you after seeing the tank.
